HGK Shipping, Europe’s largest inland waterway shipping company, is advancing its digital transformation with the launch of an in-house AI application in November. The company has partnered with Cologne-based neuland.ai, a platform specializing in AI solutions for small and medium-sized enterprises. This partnership reinforces HGK Shipping’s long-term strategy to lead innovation in inland waterway logistics.

Firstly, the new AI system will boost operational efficiency and enable new data-driven services for customers. “Launching our own AI solution marks a major milestone toward becoming a digital shipping company,” said Steffen Bauer, CEO of HGK AG and Chairman of the Managing Board of HGK Shipping. “Partnering with neuland.ai shows the innovative strength of the Rhine region.”

“AI will help us connect processes, speed up data-based decisions, and create new services for our clients,” added Kevin Stepan, Head of IT Business Partner Management at HGK Shipping.

HGK Shipping has already demonstrated strong innovation capabilities, including developing remote operations for inland vessels and pioneering sustainable ship designs that promote efficient and eco-friendly logistics.

Karl-Heinz Land, CEO and founder of neuland.ai, said, “We’re helping HGK Shipping become an AI-first company that enhances both customer service and employee satisfaction. Our goal is to improve processes with AI while keeping people at the center.”
