Hellmann launches new rail service between Germany and China

Hellmann Worldwide Logistics has launched a weekly rail service on the new silk road linking Chongqing, China with Bremen, Germany in an effort to respond to the increasing demand for train connections between Asia and Europe.

“With a regular train connection directly to Bremen from the world’s largest city of Chongqing, the Bremen ports are now integrated into the silk road,” said Claudia Schilling, senator for science and ports of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.

The first train arrived at the Roland Umschlagsgesellschaft Terminal in Bremen, on 21 January. Upon arrival in the German hub, it was loaded with diverse cargo from the fashion, automotive and high-tech industries.

The trains that have a loading capacity of 44 containers, are on road for about 20 days in both directions and depart from Bremen and Chongqing three times a week.

With this service, the German logistics company now offers a sustainable alternative to the connections between Duisburg and Hamburg from and to Chongqing, which have been in operation since 2013, according to a statement.

“With the expansion of our transcontinental network, we are taking pressure off the existing routes and offering customers from all verticals an alternate fast and reliable connection between Asia and Europe,” stated Jens Wollesen, CEO of Hellmann Worldwide Logistics.

Additionally, Hellmann is currently working with the Chinese train operator Yuxinou to expand the follow-up transport in Asia and to consolidate the transport connections from Chongqing to Southeast Asian countries, such as Laos or Vietnam.

In the meantime, the follow-up transport within Germany and Europe is also being expanded together with the Roland Umschlagsgesellschaft Terminal in Bremen.

Different terminals in Southern Europe and East Europe will therefore be incorporated in the future, in addition to the existing daily connections from Bremen to Verona and Stuttgart.
