Hecksher launches Fuel Switch Route using biofuel insets on all LCL shipments from Shanghai to Gothenburg. Every import automatically includes certified maritime biofuel insets, fully financed by Hecksher and Greencarrier at no extra cost or operational change for customers.
This initiative, part of the Greencarrier Blue Initiative, integrates verified biofuel insets as standard on one of the busiest trade lanes. By covering the cost, Hecksher removes financial and operational barriers for customers seeking lower-emission shipping.
Patrik Westraeus, Head of Sustainability at Greencarrier, said, “The Fuel Switch Route shows that reducing emissions doesn’t have to be complicated. Sustainability can be part of everyday logistics.”
For each shipment, Hecksher matches and retires verified maritime biofuel insets through a certified book-and-claim system, ensuring measurable CO₂ reductions with third-party verification.
Hecksher also reduces inland emissions by using trusted hauliers. Depending on the final destination, electric, HVO100, or Euro 6 trucks handle the trucking leg.
Patrik Rössberger, Managing Director of Hecksher Sweden, said, “From sea to last mile, every shipment reduces its carbon footprint without extra cost or complexity for customers.”
The Fuel Switch Route builds on the Shipping Made Fossil Free concept, which let customers trial biofuel insets at no cost. Hecksher now embeds lower-emission shipping into every LCL shipment for the long term.
