Hapag-Lloyd updates PSS for Africa-bound cargo

Hapag-Lloyd has announced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) update for shipments from Asia and Oceania to multiple ports.

Hapag-Lloyd has announced a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) update for shipments from Asia and Oceania to multiple ports across West and Central Africa.

The surcharge will apply to cargo originating from China, Southeast Asia and South Korea to destinations including Angola, Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Cameroon, Namibia and several West African countries.

In addition, a separate PSS will apply to cargo from Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Fiji to selected West African ports, including Freetown, Monrovia and Conakry.

The revised surcharge will be effective for all cargo loaded from 8 April 2026 until further notice.

For most destinations, the PSS will be set at USD 500 per TEU and will apply to all container types.

However, cargo destined specifically for Conakry in Guinea will be subject to a significantly higher surcharge of USD 2,200 per TEU.

Hapag-Lloyd said the updated surcharge reflects current market conditions and operational factors affecting trade flows to the region.
