Inmarsat Maritime has announced that global container shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd is among the first to test NexusWave, a service that integrates multiple satellite networks into a unified connectivity solution.
This trial is expected to support Hapag-Lloyd’s need for a robust connectivity solution that addresses growing communication and security needs, as well as the increasing expectations for both business and crew communications.
NexusWave offers an “office-like” and “home-like” experience, ensuring continuous connectivity without concerns about usage limits, quotas, or speeds. It customizes services for each vessel’s requirements, providing a transparent total cost of ownership — all within a seamless, integrated solution. Additionally, NexusWave includes an upgrade path to the ViaSat-3 network.

The tests will evaluate how high-speed, reliable internet connections can enable critical enterprise functions to transition to the cloud, facilitating better alignment with office-based teams and allowing crew access to IT services that were previously available only onshore.
Tailored to meet specific customer needs, NexusWave uses SD-WAN technology for intelligent traffic management and prioritization, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity for mission-critical operations while supporting video-based services like remote inspections. Additionally, it separates business and crew welfare channels to enhance connectivity for both.
Moreover, NexusWave encrypts traffic at the vessel level and employs advanced enterprise-grade infrastructure trusted by leading enterprises and governments globally to increase the security levels.
