Hapag-Lloyd has reopened bookings to and from Upper Gulf locations using alternative routes that bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
Routing via Sharjah
Cargo will be routed through Sharjah as a transshipment hub, connecting to:
- Kuwait
- Dammam (Saudi Arabia)
- Qatar
- Iraq
- United Arab Emirates

Service details
The solution supports:
- Dry, reefer, and in-gauge special cargo
- Bonded trucking between Sharjah and Khorfakkan
- Connections to Oman and India
Operational notes
- Feeder services run without fixed weekly schedules
- Transit depends on regional safety conditions
- Bonded transport between Sharjah and Khorfakkan takes about five days
Additional option via Jeddah
Carrier haulage solutions via Jeddah remain available.
Ensuring supply chain continuity
The move allows Hapag-Lloyd to maintain service into the Gulf region while mitigating risks linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
