Hapag Lloyd offers electronic Bills of Lading worldwide

The German shipping company Hapag Lloyd has announced the collaboration with WAVE BL in order to provide its customers worldwide with electronic Bills of Lading (B/L).

The digital platform for supply chain partners WAVE BL gives the ability to customers to stop printing, signing and releasing paper-based documents, not only for the B/L but also for other vital trade documents.

In particular, the platform optimises the flow of cargo in a blockchain-backed digital infrastructure, taking the place of manual workflows in exchange for a more secure, automated solution, with which carriers can issue, possess, transmit and sign documents within minutes.

According to the announcement, the electronic bill of lading service will allow Hapag-Lloyd and its customers to shift to digitally exchanging a key trade document without using paper.

“By partnering with WAVE BL, we continue to expand our offers of e-tools, committing to our promise of adding value to our customers, improve the customer experience and being number one for quality,” said Juan Carlos Duk, Managing Director Global Commercial Development of Hapag-Lloyd, who noted that the new tool will enable the secure and speedy electronic release of these documents.

With the new solution, Hapag-Lloyd gets one step further of going paperless with its customers. “Physical documentation sharing on paper has high costs and exposes the risk of forgery and loss in an industry that grosses over US$19 trillion in goods, annually,” highlighted the company in its announcement.
