Hapag-Lloyd announces new Gambia peak season surcharge

Hapag-Lloyd will implement a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for shipments from the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent to the port of Banjul in Gambia.

The surcharge will be applicable to all container types from May 19, 2025, until further notice, and has been set at US$400/€350 per container.



The German ocean carrier provided the following overview of the PSS geographies:

  • North America: United States and Canada
  • Latin America: Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Barbados, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, and Saba, Bahamas, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Curaçao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Cayman Islands, Saint Lucia, Martinique, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama, Suriname, El Salvador, Sint Maarten, Turks and Caicos Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Venezuela, British Virgin Islands and the United States Virgin Islands

  • North Europe: Germany, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Norway, Finland, Lithuania, Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Austria, Switzerland, Slovakia, Estonia, Iceland and Luxembourg
  • South Europe: Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Israel, Montenegro, Libya, Romania, Cyprus, Slovenia, Lebanon, Turkey, Ukraine, Egypt, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Algeria, Morocco, Malta and Tunisia

  • Middle East and Indian Subcontinent: United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan
