Hapag-Lloyd has announced new Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) on shipments from Europe to North America and Mexico, covering multiple origin regions and container types.
For cargo from North Europe to North America and Mexico, a PSS will apply to all container types for sailings commencing on 20 April 2026 until further notice. The surcharge will be set at USD 250 for 20-foot containers and USD 500 for 40-foot and 40-foot high cube containers, including both dry and reefer equipment.
In addition, Hapag-Lloyd has introduced a separate PSS for shipments from Italy, Spain and Portugal to the United States. This surcharge will take effect from 1 May 2026 and will apply to dry, reefer and special containers, including high cube equipment.
Under this second measure, the PSS will be USD 300 per 20-foot container and USD 600 per 40-foot and 40-foot high cube container.
The carrier noted that existing ocean tariff rates, bunker, security-related surcharges and terminal handling charges remain unchanged, while local and contingency charges may still apply.
