Hapag-Lloyd announces new direct link between Türkiye and West Africa

Hapag-Lloyd has announced the introduction of a new direct connection between Türkiye and key West African ports.

Starting May 2025, the German carrier’s updated WAX service will combine the former XMX and WAX services, delivering enhanced coverage, improved transit times, and increased flexibility.

Hapag-Lloyd said the new service will offer a direct connection from Izmit, Gemlik and Istanbul in Türkiye to West African ports and additional capacity for intra-Europe cargo needs, with reliable links between Türkiye, Casablanca, and Barcelona.

The service will be fully operated by Hapag-Lloyd with the following service rotation:

  • Izmit (Turkiye) -> Gemlik (Turkiye) -> Istanbul (Turkiye) -> Casablanca (Morocco) -> Tanger Med (Morocco) -> Tema (Ghana) -> Lome (Togo) -> Cotonou (Benin) -> Lagos (Tincan / Apapa) (Nigeria) -> Onne (Nigeria) -> Casablanca (Morocco) -> Tanger Med (Morocco) -> Barcelona (Spain) -> Izmit (Turkiye)
