Guinea redraws global shipping map with Cape-sized ambitions

West Africa is sailing into a new era of maritime prominence and at the heart of this shift is Guinea, a country rapidly transforming from an overlooked exporter to a heavyweight in global shipping.



New figures from investment bank Jefferies show that West Africa now accounts for 14% of global Capesize vessel liftings, up from just 6% three years ago.

The driver is a booming export market for bauxite and the long-anticipated launch of Guinea’s massive Simandou iron ore project this November.
