Greenwheel Electric plans EV charging hub at Hunterston PARC

Greenwheel Electric has entered into an options agreement with Peel Ports Group to pursue planning approval for an electric vehicle charging hub at the Hunterston PARC site in Ayrshire.

The proposed facility would be located at the former coal terminal on the Ayrshire coast and would supply ultra-rapid charging powered entirely by solar energy, targeting both private and commercial users in the surrounding area.

The project is currently in the early stages of the planning process.

Kirstin Leckie, Senior Project Manager at Greenwheel Electric, described the announcement as a significant addition to a series of developments taking shape at the Hunterston PARC campus, expressing the company’s commitment to delivering accessible, low-cost renewable charging infrastructure at the site.

The announcement coincides with broader redevelopment activity at Hunterston PARC.

Peel Ports Group has separately received planning permission for a £150 million redevelopment of the site’s marine yard, reinforcing the campus’s emergence as a multi-use industrial and energy hub on Scotland’s west coast.
