Greek tanker suffers pirate attack in Cameroon – Seafarers kidnapped

Τhe Greek flag ship ” HAPPY LADY ” NP. 12183, which was anchored off the coast of Cameroon, came under armed attack on Tuesday (12/31/2019). Pirates kidnapped five Greek seafarers, two sailors from Philippines and one Ukrainian crew member.

“As soon as the incident was reported to the Operations Center of the Hellenic Coast Guard – Greek Coast Guard, the competent services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were informed,” the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy says.

“The Minister of Shipping and Island Policy Ioannis Plakiotakis is following the matter closely with the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the tanker management company,” according to the statement.

The negotiations are still ongoing.
