Grain terminal project at the port of Gdańsk moves into implementation phase

Port Gdański Eksploatacja, a subsidiary of the Port of Gdańsk Authority, signed an agreement with Premium Quality Care to begin construction on a modern grain handling facility the Gdańsk Agro Terminal.

The first stage involves building a large flat warehouse on Szczecińskie Quay, paving the way for a state-of-the-art terminal with a projected annual handling capacity of 3 million tonnes.

The agreement was signed by Andrzej Kuźmicz, President of the Management Board of PGE, and Robert Skóra, President of Premium Quality Care. The total investment is valued at PLN 240 million gross, with the largest portions allocated to technology (38%) and construction (33%).

The project will be fully funded from PGE’s own resources, following approval from the Port of Gdańsk’s Supervisory Board and General Assembly, and with at least PLN 200 million in financing secured.

Meanwhile, a tender process is underway for the Feasibility Study of Stage Two, estimated at PLN 350,000 net.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka, who attended the signing ceremony, praised the initiative mentioning that this will significantly enhance the Port of Gdańsk’s handling capacity.

Once fully operational, the terminal will offer 160,000 tonnes of storage capacity more than quadrupling the current 35,000 tonnes and increase grain handling capabilities from 0.7 million to 3 million tonnes per year.

The grain market is experiencing exceptional volatility driven by geopolitical events and climate pressures, said PGE President Andrzej Kuźmicz.

Currently under construction, the terminal will feature automated systems for grain handling from hopper wagons, trucks, and ships. The first-stage warehouse will be equipped with technological bridges, continuous transport systems, and dust-reduction features, ensuring operational efficiency and environmental compliance.
