The global supply chain provider, Geodis will extend its contract logistics footprint in Sweden by opening a warehouse of 16,000m² at Arendal, in an effort to accelerate organic growth.
The freight forwarding company’s new facility which will start operations on 1 December, is strategically located in the proximity of Gothenburg port, as Arendal is 15km away from the city of Gothenburg. This location gives easy access to Stockholm and Malmö, as well as Oslo in Norway, and the wider Nordic region.
The range of warehousing and distribution services that will be offered includes receiving goods to Warehouse Management System (WMS), inventory storage, pick and packing, case palletisation, value-added services, returns processing, quality control and distribution, according to a statement.
Furthermore, a variety of industry sectors will be catered for at the new facility, but fast-growing retail and e-commerce verticals will be core businesses served.
Thomas Kraus, Geodis President and CEO of North, East and Central Europe, commenting on the expansion into the Swedish market, said that the company has been long-established in the country and its traditional customers have been calling for an extension to its services.
“It’s the ideal stepping-stone for Geodis growth in Sweden,” he highlighted, and went on to add that the Frech company will draw on its contract logistics operations capabilities throughout Europe and around the world “to help customers achieve their ambitions for business growth.”
“This new, strategically positioned facility provides a solid logistical base,” noted Managing Director of Geodis in Scandinavia, Magnus Tornerhjelm. “It is an answer to the warehousing and logistics needs of our current and future customers while also allowing them to benefit from a last-mile distribution network,” he added.
Currently, the Geodis group operates in Sweden from eight locations, Helsingborg, Jönköping, Borås, Norrköping, Lund, Gothenburg, Stockholm and Malmö, with 350 employees.
