GEODIS has strengthened its commitment to sustainability and operational efficiency in Spain with the acquisition of twelve additional environmentally efficient road vehicles. This follows recent changes in Spanish legislation that allow Euro-modular duotrailers on designated routes.
The new investment brings GEODIS’s European Road Network fleet in Spain to a total of eighteen duotrailers and tractor units. Each tractor delivers 640HP, capable of hauling two duotrailers up to 32 meters long, carrying a combined payload of 72 tonnes. Compared with traditional trailer units, these vehicles reduce CO₂ emissions by over 30%.
GEODIS will use the new duotrailers to serve clients in the paper, steel, and automotive sectors, where demand for high-capacity transport is growing. The move highlights the company’s focus on sustainable solutions and innovation in logistics.
Marc Vollet, EVP of GEODIS’s European Road Network activity, commented: “These duotrailers not only deliver significant environmental benefits but also improve productivity, allowing one tractor and driver to haul two semi-trailers. The cost optimization and operational efficiency will bring tangible benefits to our Spanish customers.”
Following the October 21st resolution by Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT), duotrailers can now operate without prior authorization, provided they meet technical requirements and stay on approved routes. GEODIS ensures all units are equipped with advanced safety features, including pneumatic suspension, blind spot detection, lane-keeping systems, emergency braking, and electronic stability control.
