General average declared on ZIM Charleston

General average (GA) has now been declared by charterers on the 8,586 TEU container ship, ZIM Charleston, which suffered a fire incident on 8 August.

The post panamax vessel is owned by Hong Kong-headquartered Seaspan and chartered by Israeli container carrier ZIM.

According to the insurance firm, WK Webster, general average security will be required from all cargo interests prior to the delivery of their cargo.

“We are currently in contact with average adjusters to ascertain the terms of the GA security to be provided,” said WK Webster.
