Gemini Cooperation partners Hapag-Lloyd and Maersk are set to amend their transatlantic service network to offset capacity and coverage changes resulting from the planned closure of Hapag-Lloyd’s Europe–Caribbean CES service, according to Dynaliners.
The adjustments will affect several Gemini-operated loops, with port rotations modified to maintain connectivity between Europe, North America and the Caribbean following the withdrawal of the CES service.
Under the changes, the AL1/TA3 service will replace Baltimore with Philadelphia, while the AL3/TA2 service will add a call at St. John, Canada, strengthening coverage in eastern Canada.
The CES service, which is scheduled to be closed, currently operates on the rotation Antwerp – Felixstowe – Hamburg – Antwerp – Saint John (Canada) – Philadelphia – Port Everglades – Santa Marta – MoÃn – Cartagena – Antwerp.
Following the amendments, the AL1/TA3 rotation will operate as Southampton – Rotterdam – Hamburg – Wilhelmshaven – New York – Norfolk – Philadelphia – St. John – Southampton.
The revised AL3/TA2 service will operate on the rotation Southampton – Antwerp – Rotterdam – Hamburg – St. John – Charleston – Savannah – Norfolk – Southampton.
The network adjustments are intended to preserve service coverage and port connectivity across the transatlantic trade lanes as Gemini restructures its offerings in response to the CES service withdrawal.
