Gebrüder Weiss establishes new logistics center in Germany

On 18 April, Bavaria’s Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder inaugurated the new branch of Gebrüder Weiss in Straubing, Germany on “Logistics Day”, an annual event where the nationwide industry opens its doors.

He hailed Gebrüder Weiss’ US$15 million investment in Straubing as a beacon of hope amidst what he described as challenges faced by truck logistics in Germany. Dr. Söder expressed concerns over increased CO2 prices, doubled tolls, and reduced funding for e-mobility, emphasizing the detrimental impact on this vital industry and its contribution to inflation. He underscored the crucial need for visionary entrepreneurs and motivated employees.

“The Free State of Bavaria offers us a good set of conditions on which we can base our plans for expansion in Germany. Over the past five years, we have invested US$128 million in Bavaria with the aim of giving Bavarian industrial and commercial enterprises access to markets both in Germany and around the world,” made a clear commitment to Bavaria as a place of business, Wolfram Senger-Weiss, CEO of Gebrüder Weiss.

While visiting, Minister-President Söder received an overview of the operational processes and procedures. At the Straubing facility, incoming goods undergo preparation across a spacious area spanning 3,700 square meters. These goods are readied for forwarding within Germany, onward transportation to various European countries, as well as for air and sea freight destined overseas. Additionally, the terminal functions as a pivotal distribution centre catering to the economic regions of Eastern Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, and Upper Palatinate.

“Our new location brings us even closer to our customers in Bavaria, to whom we offer reliable transport and logistics solutions, digital services and a direct connection to our global network. We guarantee efficient land transport from a single source with our close-knit network of locations, particularly to Austria and South-Eastern Europe,” stated Wolfram Senger-Weiss.

Plans are underway to expand the Straubing location in the coming years, including the addition of extra warehouses and handling facilities. The company is committing a substantial eight-figure investment toward this expansion.

In recent years, Gebrüder Weiss has established a robust network of locations in southern Germany. Apart from Straubing, the company operates its own branches and subsidiaries in Aldingen, Altensteig, Bayreuth, Esslingen, Konradsreuth, Memmingen, Nuremberg, Passau, and Waldkraiburg.
