Gaussin to test the first hydrogen-powered tractor

The transport and logistics engineering company Gaussin will partner with Terminal du Grand Ouest (TGO) in France to test the first hydrogen-powered heavy handling tractor.

The full-scale tests will take place at TGO’s Montoir container terminal in spring 2022, according to the engineering company.

The Gaussin “APM H2 75T” is able to tow 75 tonnes of goods with a power of 230kW and is the first on the national territory having a performance of consuming about 10 kilos of hydrogen per day.

“Our mastery of hydrogen technology will enable us to tow 75 tons of goods while consuming about 10 kg of hydrogen per day, for the first time in France,” said Christophe Gaussin, CEO of Gaussin.

This partnership is part of an action led by the Neopolia network of companies, which brings together 240 industrialists in the Pays de la Loire region, including TGO, aiming to test in real conditions a hydrogen port tractor, used for container transport.

“This cooperation, made possible thanks to the Neopolia network, will allow us to respond to public health issues and to strengthen our position in the energy transition,” stated Olivier Hamelet, technical director of TGO.
