Gateway Terminals India signs MoU to launch Skill Development Programme

Gateway Terminals India, also known as APM Terminals Mumbai, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority and Vadhvan Port Project Ltd. to launch a comprehensive Skill Development Programme tailored for the port sector.

Aligned with the Government of India’s “Skill India Programme,” this initiative aims to empower local communities, improve employability, and foster diversity within port operations.

The training will be hosted at GTI’s premises and will focus on delivering vocational and technical skills specific to the port industry, including modules on Safety, Maintenance, Planning, and Equipment Operations.

This collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to creating an inclusive, job-ready workforce that supports the employment generation goals outlined in the Union Budget 2025.

Through a curriculum combining theoretical instruction with hands-on training, the programme will feature inclusive teaching methods, diversity-focused initiatives, and paid apprenticeships.

This alliance aims to position skill development as a cornerstone of India’s economic growth, in line with the vision of “Ports for Prosperity and Ports for Progress.”

The objectives of the program include:

  • Train and support individuals affected by port development projects (PAPs).

  • Deliver high-quality, industry-relevant training to selected candidates.

  • Encourage increased participation of women in port operations.

  • Promote diversity and inclusion across the port and maritime sectors.

Shri Unmesh Wagh, Chairman of JNPA, believes that this initiative not only creates valuable opportunities for the local population but also highlights a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in the port industry.
