
Foreign-trade container volumes at Kitakyushu Port increased in July. The port handled 36,361 TEUs, up 11.2% year on year, according to local port authorities and as Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA) reported.
Exports reached 18,513 TEUs, up 11.9%. Imports totaled 17,848 TEUs, an increase of 10.5%.
Domestic container traffic moved in the opposite direction. Volumes fell 5.2% to 8,944 TEUs. Combined foreign and domestic traffic reached 45,305 TEUs, a 7.6% increase.
By tonnage, exports rose 4.3% to 450,000 tons. Imports declined 9.1% to 1.5 million tons. Total foreign cargo reached 1.95 million tons, down 6.3%.
Domestic cargo also fell. Volumes dropped 4.2% to 6.4 million tons. Total throughput in July stood at 8.35 million tons, down 4.7%.
Seven-Month Performance
For the January–July period, the port handled 248,457 TEUs of foreign-trade containers. That marks a 2.1% increaseyear on year.
Exports rose 3% to 125,497 TEUs. Imports increased 1.1% to 122,960 TEUs.
Domestic containers totaled 55,834 TEUs, down 2%. Overall container throughput reached 304,291 TEUs, up 1.3%.
In volume terms, exports reached 3.33 million tons, up 7.5%. Imports dropped 8.5% to 10.25 million tons.
Including domestic cargo, total throughput amounted to 55.64 million tons from January to July. This represents a 4.4% decline year on year.
