FMC swears in new commissioner Laura DiBella

The Federal Maritime Commission has welcomed Laura DiBella as its newest Commissioner.

DiBella was sworn in on January 6, 2026. She will serve a term running through June 30, 2028. President Donald Trump nominated her in September 2025. The U.S. Senate confirmed the nomination on December 18, 2025. The President formally appointed her on January 2, 2026.

DiBella brings extensive experience in economic development and maritime affairs. She previously served as Florida’s first female Secretary of Commerce. She was also President and CEO of Enterprise Florida.

Her maritime background includes roles as Executive Director of the Florida Harbor Pilots Association and Port Director of the Port of Fernandina Ocean Highway and Port Authority.

DiBella holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management and Business Administration from the University of Florida.

The Commission said her leadership, business expertise, and industry knowledge will strengthen its work. The FMC welcomed DiBella and expressed confidence in her service to the Commission.
