FlexCold announces expansion of Jacksonville facility

FlexCold, a cold storage warehousing company, will expand its facility in the port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT), located in Florida in the United States.

The facility is the first one of the company and the planned expansion is expected to more than double the overall building footprint to over 32,500 m², bringing the total number of pallet positions to 55,000, up from the initial 25,000 positions.

The facility is located 4.8 kilometres from the port.

Moreover, the FlexCold-Jacksonville expansion aims to start in the first quarter of 2023 and be completed in the summer of 2024.

The Jacksonville City Council officially approved the economic development agreement on 24 January.

“The investments that have been made in our port provide the capabilities for our region to efficiently accommodate growing consumer demand for fresh and frozen foods, including poultry and seafood,” commented JAXPORT CEO, Eric Green.

According to JAXPORT, after the expansion, FlexCold’s Jacksonville facility will offer the following:

  • Over 32,500 m² and over 55,000 pallet positions of chilled and frozen storage
  • 51 bays and 115 reefer plug-ins
  • Both cooling and freezing with temperatures ranging from -10 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit
  • On-site blast freezing is available, with a capacity of up to 12 loads per day
  • 100 local jobs
