First train departs from Railport, Türkiye’s first private intermodal terminal

Railport, Türkiye’s first privately operated intermodal terminal, launched rail terminal operations with the departure of its inaugural train on 21 November 2025. The milestone marks a major step in the terminal’s operational commissioning. Also, strengthens Türkiye’s growing intermodal transport capability.

The first service was operated by Metrans, a rail company with a long history, an extensive terminal network, and deep expertise in intermodal logistics. The partnership represents a strategic start that supports increased rail-based freight movement between Türkiye and Europe.

Railport’s modern infrastructure, high handling capacity, advanced technological systems, and strategically important location will enable freight flows between Türkiye and Europe to move more regularly, safely, and sustainably. The inaugural train reinforces the terminal’s integration into international intermodal networks.

Railport General Manager Fatih Yılmazkarasu said, “The first train departure from Railport clearly demonstrates the contribution our terminal will make to rail transportation in Türkiye. This operation marks the start of our long-term strategy to expand the effective use of intermodal transport nationwide and offer competitive, efficient solutions to our customers.”

Following this initial operation, Railport and Metrans plan to continue their cooperation through regular train services, supporting the development of a more sustainable and reliable logistics system along the Türkiye–Europe rail corridor.
