The port of Marseille Fos hosted on 27th June 2018 the first General Assembly of the MEDPorts association which now groups around twenty port authorities around the Mediterranean.
The aim of MEDPorts is to create an area of ​​enhanced operational cooperation in the Mediterranean, within a sustainable structure, and to share collective experience to give Mediterranean ports increased visibility on the world maritime transport scene.
Twenty port authorities were present at this event, which brought together ports from 10 countries on both sides of the Mediterranean. The 20 founding members are: Algeciras, Arzew (Algeria), Barcelona, ​​Bastia, Bejaia (Algeria), Beirut, Civitavecchia, Damietta, Luka Koper, Malta Freeport, Marseille Fos, the Office of the Merchant Navy and Ports (bringing together Tunisian ports), Puertos del Estado, Skikda, Tangier Med, Serport (grouping Algerian ports), Tarragona, Toulon, Valencia, and Venice.
Agence Nationale des Ports (ANP – National Port Agency/Morocco), Alexandria, Durres and Thessaloniki are expected to join soon.
At the general assembly, Christine Cabau was elected president of 11 members Executive Committee. The members have created six technical committees which will focus on training and maritime expertise, sustainability, security and safety, relations with international institutions, statistics and market analysis, and also on smart port, in order to collectively act on common issues, share expertise and best practices.
The head office of the Association will be located in Marseille.
