Fincantieri reshapes Constellation-Class Program to align with U.S. Navy priorities

Fincantieri Marine Group and the U.S. Navy have reached an agreement to reshape the Constellation-class program, currently under construction at Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Wisconsin, aligning the program with the Navy’s evolving strategic priorities. This move strengthens Fincantieri’s role as a key partner in U.S. naval shipbuilding and long-term maritime defense.

The agreement ensures the continuation of work on two Constellation-class frigates while discontinuing contracts for four others, reflecting the Navy’s shift toward a future fleet emphasizing technological innovation, manned and unmanned vessels, and sustainable operations. Fincantieri is expected to receive new orders for vessels that support amphibious, icebreaking, and other special missions.

The arrangement provides indemnification for Fincantieri’s existing economic commitments and industrial impacts, while ensuring workforce continuity and workload visibility for its Wisconsin shipyards. Over the past years, Fincantieri has invested more than $800 million across four U.S. shipyards—Marinette, Green Bay, Sturgeon Bay, and Jacksonville—enhancing production efficiency, modularity, and scalability of naval platforms.

Fincantieri Marine Group currently employs approximately 3,750 skilled workers in the U.S., having recently added 850 employees to support increased demand and reinforce the national maritime industrial base.

This agreement solidifies Fincantieri’s strategic partnership with the U.S. Navy and reinforces its commitment to advancing American naval capabilities through innovation, investment, and skilled workforce development.
