Fincantieri launches “Viking Mira” in Ancona

Fincantieri has launched Viking Mira, a new cruise ship built for Viking, at its Ancona shipyard. The vessel will enter service in spring 2026, offering itineraries in the Mediterranean and Northern Europe.

The launch ceremony marked the ship’s transition to the final outfitting phase. Gilberto Tobaldi, Director of the Ancona Shipyard, and Gastone Lazzari, Viking’s New Building Site Team Manager, were present for the event.

With a gross tonnage of around 54,300 tons, Viking Mira will carry up to 998 guests in 499 staterooms. She joins the small cruise ship segment and becomes part of Viking’s growing ocean fleet, all built by Fincantieri.

The partnership between Fincantieri and Viking now includes 28 ships. That number reflects vessels already delivered, under construction, or under contract.

Each Viking ship meets strict international standards for safety and navigation. They feature high-efficiency engines and advanced exhaust gas treatment systems to comply with today’s toughest environmental regulations.

The Ancona shipyard remains one of Fincantieri’s key production hubs. It spans 360,000 square meters and can handle hulls of up to 1,200 tons per month. Since 2009, the yard has delivered 20 vessels, supported by a diverse workforce of roughly 3,700 people.

The yard also plays a major role in the company’s Operations Excellence program, which focuses on adopting robotics, advanced tech, and AI to boost efficiency and improve working conditions.
