Fincantieri has signed a strategic agreement with WSense, an Italian deep-tech company. The deal strengthens Fincantieri’s capabilities in advanced systems for the underwater domain.
The agreement covers two areas. First, the companies will co-develop wireless technologies for underwater applications. Second, they will collaborate commercially to apply these solutions to environmental monitoring through Fincantieri Infrastructure.
Under the agreement, Fincantieri will integrate WSense technology into its DEEP system. This system monitors and protects critical underwater infrastructure. The wireless approach reduces the need for cables. This lowers vulnerability and increases system resilience. It also makes installations safer, more flexible, and easier to deploy.
The commercial partnership also enables the use of WSense solutions in civil applications. These include environmental monitoring and structural integrity control. The new products aim to improve safety, efficiency, and operational performance for end users.
The agreement builds on an existing partnership. In April 2025, Fincantieri invested in WSense. The two companies bring complementary strengths. Fincantieri integrates complex systems, while WSense provides expertise in underwater wireless networks.
With this move, Fincantieri reinforces its position in the underwater sector. It also strengthens its role as a provider of integrated, next-generation technologies.
Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, said the agreement supports the company’s underwater economy strategy. He noted that wireless technologies will improve resilience, safety, and sustainability of critical infrastructure. He added that Fincantieri aims to lead complex technological ecosystems and support underwater technological sovereignty.
Chiara Petrioli, CEO of WSense, said the partnership confirms WSense’s role as an innovation leader. She added that the collaboration will bring advanced wireless systems to the market. These systems will support surveillance, protection, and sustainable management of underwater infrastructure. She also said the partnership will help position Italy as a key player in the Internet of Underwater Things.
