Everllence CEO Dr Uwe Lauber presented Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen and Managing Director Fleet Silke Lehmköster with a commemorative plaque celebrating Hapag-Lloyd’s purchase of an Everllence B&W 7G95ME-GI dual-fuel engine, the 1,000th ME-GI ordered to date.
The engine is destined for a container vessel now under construction at Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding.
Habben Jansen highlighted that dual-fuel technologies like the ME-GI move them closer to a low-emission fleet and help drive change across the industry.
Dr Lauber added, that container lines have been the strongest adopters of the ME-GI, so it is fitting that Hapag-Lloyd marks this landmark order.
He noted that 2025 has seen a sharp rise in ME-GI demand as shipowners turn to methane as a transition fuel. The ME-GI’s high efficiency, proven reliability, and industry-leading low methane slip have cemented its status as the marine market’s reference dual-fuel engine.
Introduced in 2014, the ME-GI series has since gained broad acceptance across all major shipping segments, reinforcing its role in the sector’s decarbonisation journey.
