
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Robert Mærsk Uggla, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the A.P. Møller-Mærsk Group, to discuss expanding cooperation between Egypt and Maersk in maritime transport, logistics, and green fuel initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), and Hany El Nady, Chief Group Representative of Maersk in the Middle East and North Africa.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency of the Arab Republic of Egypt, President El-Sisi reaffirmed the strategic partnership between the Egyptian state, represented by the SCA, and Maersk, praising the company’s ongoing efforts to develop green fuel projects that reinforce Egypt’s role as a regional hub for sustainable maritime operations.
The President also commended Maersk’s contributions to the expansion of the Suez Canal Container Terminal in East Port Said.
Robert Mærsk Uggla expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s leadership in fostering regional peace and stability, highlighting the country’s diplomatic efforts in Gaza and its role in hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit.
He emphasized that Egypt’s stability is crucial for maintaining efficient shipping traffic through the Red Sea and reiterated Maersk’s commitment to the Suez Canal as the world’s most vital shipping corridor.
The Maersk chairman also noted the company’s interest in supporting Egypt’s reconstruction efforts in Gaza, with East Port Said Port expected to play a key logistical role. He praised the SCA’s infrastructure and technical advancements, which he said position Egypt as a future leader in green fuel supply for global shipping.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in training, logistics, and terminal operations. President El-Sisi assured Maersk of Egypt’s commitment to maintaining a favorable investment climate and addressing any challenges facing the company, expressing the state’s aspiration to further expand Maersk’s investments in the Egyptian market.
Adm. Ossama Rabiee, Chairman of the SCA, commended the longstanding partnership with Maersk, affirming the Authority’s readiness to deepen collaboration through new joint projects that support Egypt’s economic growth and enhance its position as a global logistics hub.
