Econowind has successfully installed four VentoFoils on the chemical tanker, operated by Danish shipping company Uni-Tankers.
The ATEX-certified suction wing units were installed in just four days at the Port of Rotterdam, demonstrating their efficiency and ease of integration.
This marks the fourth tanker to be equipped with Econowind’s VentoFoils, bringing the company’s total installations to over 130 units across the commercial fleet.
Chiel de Leeuw, Chief Commercial Officer at Econowind stated that with the ATEX-approved systems and accumulated experience, will help Uni-Tankers move closer to their decarbonization goals.
Uni-Tankers selected the 124m x 20m M/T JUTLANDIA SWAN as its pilot vessel for wind propulsion integration. Foundation works were completed during a scheduled drydock in Turkey, and commissioning proceeded smoothly at Rotterdam Offshore Group, showcasing how VentoFoils can be incorporated without disrupting vessel operations.
The VentoFoil system is currently undergoing classification with Bureau Veritas and is expected to deliver tangible regulatory and environmental benefits, including: 10% improvement in EEXI rating and 3% contribution toward FuelEU Maritime compliance.
As Uni-Tankers positions wind energy as a core component of its sustainability roadmap, the M/T JUTLANDIA SWAN will now serve as a testbed for suction-based sail integration.
