
According to Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA), Drewry’s Intra-Asia Container Index (IACI) fell 9% in the first half of August, landing at US$592 per FEU. That’s 35% lower than the same period last year. The consultancy expects rates to hold steady through the rest of the month.
On key lanes, rates showed mixed movements. Spot prices slipped 2% to US$51 per FEU from Busan to Shanghai and dropped 6% to US$51 per FEU from Jakarta to Shanghai. Shanghai to Jawaharlal Nehru fell 7% to US$1,397 per FEU, while Shanghai to Singapore plunged 11% to US$738 per FEU.
Other routes saw gains. Ho Chi Minh City to Shanghai climbed 11% to US$39 per FEU. Shanghai to Tanjung Pelepas rose 6% to US$1,024 per FEU, and Shanghai to Yokohama increased 7% to US$777 per FEU. The sharpest fall came on the Yokohama–Shanghai leg, down 31% to US$72 per FEU.
