DP World London Gateway handles record 5M TEUs

DP World set a new record at London Gateway, handling over 3 million TEUs in 2025. This is a 52% increase from 1.9 million TEUs in 2024. Growth came from the new fourth berth, and additional vessel calls from Gemini Cooperation’s Asia–Europe routes.

Southampton also grew, surpassing 2 million TEUs. Combined, DP World’s UK terminals moved over 5 million TEUs in 2025. The UK market totaled more than 9 million TEUs.

Construction continues at London Gateway. Two new all-electric berths are being built in a £1 billion project. The port will then have six berths for the largest container ships. A second rail terminal opened in 2025. A BOXBAY container system will be added in a £170 million investment over two years.

Stephen Whittingham, Executive VP – North Europe, said:
“Every container supports British business and daily life. Surpassing five million TEUs shows our investments move goods reliably, sustainably, and efficiently.”

Southampton will get new quay cranes, creating Europe’s tallest crane fleet. This is part of a £60 million investment to future-proof the terminal.
