DP World launches new rail service from Germany to Rotterdam

By the middle of last month, the Dubai-based logistics company DP World started its own rail service from Stuttgart via Germersheim to Rotterdam.

The train has a capacity of 100 TEU and covers the route twice per week. Germersheim is the largest hub in the DP World network, which currently comprises three terminals in Germany, four in Switzerland, two in Belgium, and three in the Alsace region in France. The shuttle cargo is diverse, with automotive being part of it.

Arwin Stehouwer, product development director at DP World, said he is excited about the new rail service, “which was partly set up at the request of clients”.

Stehouwer described the new rail service as “a fine addition to the offer over water we already have to and from the Upper Rhine area.”

He added, “With this non-water-linked possibility, we offer our clients a choice as well as more efficiency and reliability. Our Stuttgart terminal is the only trimodal terminal in the region.”

According to Stehouwer, there is no doubt that DP World will be setting up more rail services in Europe.
