DP World expands Carbon Inset Credits Fivefold

DP World is increasing the carbon credits offered to customers through its Carbon Inset Programme. Starting 1 October 2025, every loaded container imported through the UK ports will qualify for 250kg CO2e credits, up from the previous 50kg.

Since launching in January, the programme has registered over 200,000 TEUs. The expanded credits cover emissions from the “last nautical mile” of container ships, including tug and pilot boat operations at London Gateway and Southampton. The increase is made possible by the use of lower carbon fuels by DP World’s subsidiary Unifeeder and tug operator Svitzer.

John Trenchard, DP World’s VP for Sustainable International Supply Chains, said the programme offers cargo owners practical ways to decarbonize their logistics. “We’re making trade more sustainable while maintaining competitiveness through smarter logistics and lower carbon fuels,” he said.

Ekaterina Riegels Hjorth, Head of Decarbonisation at Svitzer, added: “This initiative shows what’s possible when port partners unite to deliver real, scalable emissions reductions.”
