DNV and MPSF launch sustainability partnership

DNV, a leading classification society, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation (MPSF), a non-profit organization under the Mumbai Port Authority.

This partnership focuses on advancing decarbonization, digitalization, emissions management, and safety in the maritime sector.

MPSF, through its Centre of Excellence on ESG and circularity, seeks to boost sustainability for local ports and maritime businesses by promoting advanced technologies and eco-friendly practices.

“The joint working of DNV with MPSF through this MoU will facilitate in-depth analysis of issues and innovative solutions for overall sustainability and greening opportunities of the port operation,” commented Dr.R.D.Tripathi, CEO of Mumbai Port Sustainability Foundation.

As part of the MoU, DNV will offer MPSF expert advice on industry needs, regulatory requirements, technological innovations, and safety and quality standards in maritime and energy sectors.

DNV will also collaborate with MPSF to explore the commercial potential of low-carbon fuel bunkering, storage, and transfer.

“This is a transformative period for India’s maritime sector and we’re excited to be partnering with MPSF on this journey towards greener port operations. This MoU represents a significant step forward in developing and modernizing port infrastructure to support the transition to cleaner energy sources. It reflects our shared commitment to driving innovation, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient maritime future,” stated Cristina Saenz de Santa Maria, Regional Manager of South East Asia, Pacific & India, Maritime at DNV.
