Damen Marine Components (DMC) has been awarded contracts to supply rudders, steering gear, and propeller nozzles for 14 multi-purpose vessels under construction at Indian shipyards. The vessels are being built at Udupi Cochin Shipyard and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders. Both shipyards selected DMC equipment for the projects.
First Project with Udupi Cochin Shipyard
The first contract covers eight 6,300 DWT vessels for a Scandinavian owner, constructed at Udupi Cochin Shipyard (UCSL). This marks DMC’s first collaboration with UCSL, part of Cochin Shipyard Ltd. DMC will provide Atlantic-type rudders and piston-type steering gear, customized for these vessels. All equipment will be manufactured at DMC’s factory in Jiangyin, China.
Bogdan Mocanu, DMC Sales Manager, said: “We have been active in India for 20 years. Expanding our footprint with Udupi Cochin Shipyard is a proud milestone. It shows our ability to deliver tailored solutions and maintain smooth collaboration across borders.”
Six Vessels for Navi Merchants at Mazagon Dock
The second contract involves six 7,500 DWT vessels for Danish shipowner Navi Merchants, being built at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. in Mumbai. DMC will supply Atlantic-type rudders, piston-type hydraulic steering gear, and propeller nozzles to improve propulsion efficiency.
The steering gear will come from DMC’s Netherlands facility, while rudders and nozzles will be manufactured at DMC Gdansk in Poland. Mocanu added: “We are honored by Navi Merchants’ trust and excited to work with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders for the first time. This is a high-tech yard, and we expect demanding standards. This project is a significant milestone for DMC in the Indian market.”
All components will meet the latest classification standards. Deliveries are scheduled in phases starting later this year.
