Disruptions Meet Progress in Suez Canal

Despite the Houthis’ recent commitment to cease attacks on non-Israeli commercial ships following the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas on 19 January, shipping analysts from Drewry do not believe there will not be a quick return to normal operations through the Suez Canal.

The maritime industry remains entangled in a complex situation, with the fragile state of the Gaza ceasefire and the Houthis’ history of erratic actions causing significant unease.

While this is undoubtedly a positive step, it’s unrealistic to anticipate a quick resumption of container line operations through the Suez Canal,” Drewry analysts said in their latest report.
