DHL Express will invest US$90 million to expand capacity and strengthen operations across the Greater New York City area. The plan includes new facilities, upgraded equipment, and modern material-handling systems.
Firstly, the company will move its Manhattan service center to a new 92,505-square-foot facility at 16 Van Keuren Ave, Suite 100 in Jersey City, NJ, by November 2025. The site sits five miles from Lower Manhattan and offers improved vehicle access, safer employee layouts, and on-site charging infrastructure. New sorting technology will double processing capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 parcels per hour, enabling faster and more reliable deliveries.
DHL has also expanded in Brooklyn. The service center there recently relocated to a 70,202-square-foot site at 1970 Pitkin Ave. The space is nearly three times larger than the previous location. Automation upgrades doubled sorting capacity to 3,000 pieces per hour, improving speed and efficiency.
Moreover, these moves strengthen DHL’s regional network, including facilities in Long Island City, Hauppauge, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. The company will balance volumes across sites to ease pressure on high-demand locations and improve performance.
DHL’s Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG) hub will now connect directly to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Also, this change brings aircraft closer to the new Jersey City center. Facilities in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Long Island will continue to connect through JFK Airport. The new routes will reduce transit times and increase reliability.
“The New York City area is a cornerstone of our U.S. network and a key gateway for international trade,” said Greg Hewitt, CEO of DHL Express U.S. “This investment ensures we stay ahead of growing customer needs.”
“With this investment, we’re not just expanding capacity – we’re optimizing operations in one of the most complex logistics markets in the world,” Hewitt added.
Lastly, the $90 million investment underscores DHL’s long-term commitment to the New York metro region and its mission to deliver fast, reliable international express services.
