DHL Global Forwarding and Henkel are deepening their sustainability partnership by using Sustainable Marine Fuel (SMF) for most of Henkel’s 2025 ocean freight. The agreement covers around 9,000 TEUs and is expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 4,700 metric tons of CO₂e on a well-to-wake basis, about an 85% reduction compared to conventional marine fuel.
Through DHL’s GoGreen Plus service and Book & Claim system, Henkel receives certified emissions reductions, even if its freight is not physically carried on SMF-powered vessels. SGS will independently verify the reductions.
“This expansion is a major milestone in our decarbonization journey,” said Amanda Rasmussen, Chief Commercial Officer, DHL Global Forwarding. “It proves that low-emission logistics solutions are available now.”
Henkel’s Ondrej Slezacek added, “Collaborating with DHL on sustainable transport accelerates our progress toward climate targets and supports the industry-wide shift to low-emission logistics.”
The partnership builds on a successful 2024 pilot and signals growing demand for sustainable fuels. Both companies aim to strengthen SMF adoption and overcome supply constraints, setting a precedent for decarbonizing global supply chains.
