Deutsche Bahn commences DB Schenker sale process

Deutsche Bahn has begun the process of selling its logistics company DB Schenker. The DB Group released an official notice outlining an open and non-discriminatory process for selling the shares. The requirement for a sale is that it must provide obvious economic benefits to Deutsche Bahn in all aspects.

According to a statement, the worldwide logistics market has outstanding long-term growth prospects and DB Schenker has a strong market position as one of the world’s top four logistics firms.

Furthermore, DB Schenker has made a significant contribution to the DB Group’s economic success throughout the years. However, the DB subsidiary will need more capital and flexibility for its own growth.

The DB Group will keep all proceeds from a sale, the majority of which will be used to reduce debt. A sale would accelerate Deutsche Bahn’s emphasis on its core business and the implementation of the Strong Rail strategy, according to the company’s announcement.

Deutsche Bahn has already completed or agreed to sell some of its business units in international markets and will be taking another big step by letting go of DB Schenker.

In December 2022, Deutsche Bahn AG’s Supervisory Board assigned DB’s Management Board to investigate the situation and plan for a future sale of its entire shares in DB Schenker.

The decision on the sale of DB Schenker will be based on a separate resolution issued by Deutsche Bahn AG’s Supervisory Board after the sale process. The process is also affected by general capital market developments.

DB Schenker has over 1,850 facilities in more than 130 countries and around 76,600 employees.
