DCT Gdańsk hits new annual record high in container volumes

The Deepwater Container Terminal (DCT) Gdańsk in Poland handled 2,092,432 TEU in 2021, making a new annual record surpassing the previous high of 2 million TEU, set in 2019.

This performance also represents an increase of 5% compared to the previous year, despite the challenges induced by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This achievement testifies to the confidence and trust our clients have in DCT Gdańsk, coupled with DCT’s high-quality services and its excellent location,” stated Charles Baker, CEO of DCT.

In July 2021, the Port of Gdańsk announced that DCT Gdańsk will build a third deep-water terminal, Baltic Hub 3, which is expected to increase the terminal’s handling capacity by 1.5 million TEU to 4.5 million TEU per year.

The investment, valued at US$508.6 million (€450 million), will see the construction of a quay with a length of 717 metres, a depth of 18 metres and a 360,000 m2 site to open in 2024, according to a statement.

Owned by PSA International (40%), Polish Development Fund (30%) and IFM Global Infrastructure Fund advised by IFM Investors (30%), DCT is the largest container terminal and the first terminal in the Baltic Sea to surpass the mark of 2 million TEU in a year.

In April of last year, DCT also achieved the milestone of 15 million TEU handled since the beginning of its operations in 2007.
