Davie acquires Enersense Offshore to strengthen Arctic shipbuilding capabilities

Davie has announced an agreement to acquire Enersense Offshore Oy, the marine and offshore division of Enersense, located in Mäntyluoto, Pori, Finland.

This acquisition secures domestic steel production capabilities, making Helsinki Shipyard Finland’s only integrated shipbuilder, with in-house design-to-delivery capacity.

The strategic move significantly enhances Helsinki Shipyard’s ability to construct multiple special-purpose vessels simultaneously, ensuring faster delivery timelines and a more resilient production pipeline.

Steel fabricated in Mäntyluoto will support Davie’s shipbuilding programs both in Finland and North America, including high-profile Arctic projects.

The acquisition, expected to close in Q3 2025, will invigorate Finland’s shipbuilding sector, create jobs in Pori and Helsinki, and contribute to the broader economic value of the Finnish maritime cluster.

Davie and Helsinki Shipyard aim to revitalize the Mäntyluoto unit, expanding its capacity to meet the growing demand for specialized vessels, particularly in the Western market.

In March 2025, Helsinki Shipyard signed a major contract with the Canadian government to build the hull of a heavy icebreaker based on its Polar Max concept. Steel production for the vessel will begin in Pori, with construction at Helsinki Shipyard slated to start in August.

James Davies, President and CEO of Davie highlighted that this acquisition secures steel supply for key projects and strengthens while it allows the preservation of a highly skilled workforce and providing greater stability for the partners and customers.

Kim Salmi, CEO of Helsinki Shipyard, added that this acquisition transforms Helsinki Shipyard into a fully integrated shipbuilder.

All personnel at Enersense’s Marine and Offshore Unit will remain under Davie’s ownership, ensuring continuity and growth for the highly skilled team.
