Danish port partners with consultants for new box terminal

Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) has selected COWI and Rambøll as its technical consultants for the upcoming development project in Ydre Nordhavn, Copenhagen, which includes a new container terminal.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The task assigned to COWI and Rambøll, according to an announcement, includes providing technical advice for the establishment of the new box terminal, including construction and infrastructure, the establishment of offices, and administrative facilities and space for relevant authorities.

In September 2020, CMP began the tendering process for technical consultancy for future development projects in a 450,000m² area in Ydre Nordhavn, Copenhagen, where CMP plans to move the existing container terminal at Levantkaj within a few years.

Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar, COO of CMP, said that the construction of the new container terminal is one of the main projects for the port to increase the capacity and the capabilities of the existing terminal in the capital of Denmark.

“Highly efficient and competent technical consultants with a lot of experience will be an important success factor in this work,” commented Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar.

The collaboration begins right from the start with COWI and Rambøll, and the agreement will last for a period of four years, with the possibility of extending for a further two years.

“In order to ensure the best possible conditions for CMP and all users of the container terminal, we also have the opportunity to draw on the additional skills of our colleagues in the transport, energy and construction divisions, as well as from Arkitema,” said Brian Foged, vice president of COWI’s marine and foundation engineering department.

In addition, Per Kristensen, chief project manager at Rambøll, stated, “We have successfully completed consultancy on cruise terminal 4 and the container terminal, and now look forward to continuing the good collaboration, where we can offer a wide range of multidisciplinary advisory skills within the port, construction and urban development fields.”
