Danelec reaches 15,000 vessel milestone

Danelec’s deployment of high-frequency data (HFD) collection systems on over 15,000 vessels worldwide is a significant milestone of the shift towards real-time, data-driven decision-making in the shipping industry.

This growing trend reflects the increasing need for more granular and continuous insights into vessel performance, fuel consumption, predictive maintenance, and compliance with international regulations.

In 2024, maritime solution provider Danelec captured over 1.5 trillion onboard data points, a number set to double by 2026, demonstrating the rapid adoption and expansion of HFD systems. By complementing existing low-frequency data sources like noon reports, which provide periodic snapshots, HFD enables a far more detailed and accurate understanding of vessel operations in real time. This shift not only supports improved operational efficiency but also empowers ship operators to make smarter decisions that drive fuel optimization and maintenance.

“The shift toward HFD is more than a technological upgrade. It represents a fundamental change in how the maritime industry approaches operational efficiency and emissions reduction,” mentioned Casper Jensen, CEO of Danelec.

The impact of HFD is becoming more apparent through case studies and reports, such as one produced by Thetius in collaboration with Danelec. The report outlines how shipping companies are leveraging HFD for operational improvements, with experts highlighting the accuracy of consumption calculations and real-time performance monitoring made possible by the high-frequency data.

“Real-time insights from high fidelity data allow shipowners and operators to make informed decisions that not only improve performance but also ensure compliance with stringent regulatory frameworks,” he added.

As regulations and environmental standards continue to evolve, the integration of HFD into fleet operations will likely become essential for maintaining compliance and gaining a competitive edge in the shipping industry.
