Danaos Corporation has announced a strategic partnership with Glenfarne Group aimed at advancing the Alaska LNG project, marking Danaos’ entry into a major North Pacific energy development.
Under the agreement, Danaos will make a USD 50 million development capital equity investment in Glenfarne Alaska Partners LLC.
In addition, Danaos will serve as the preferred tonnage provider to construct and operate at least six LNG carriers to transport liquefied natural gas to global markets for Glenfarne Alaska LNG, LLC, the majority owner and developer of the Alaska LNG Project.
The Alaska LNG project is being developed in two financially independent phases. Phase One comprises a 765-mile, 42-inch pipeline designed to transport natural gas from Alaska’s North Slope to meet domestic energy demand within the state.
Phase Two will add an LNG liquefaction terminal and related infrastructure, enabling exports of up to 20 million tonnes per annum of LNG.
Glenfarne became the lead developer of Alaska LNG in March 2025. Since then, the company has secured preliminary commercial commitments from LNG buyers in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand covering 11 million tonnes per annum.
Strategic partnerships have also been established with Baker Hughes and POSCO International. Glenfarne holds a 75% stake in the project, while the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation owns the remaining 25%.
Glenfarne Group is a privately held global developer, owner and operator of energy infrastructure assets, with operations spanning global LNG solutions, grid stability and renewables.
Its permitted North American LNG portfolio totals 32.8 million tonnes per annum of capacity under development across Alaska, Louisiana and Texas.
“As Alaska LNG opens up a major new source of North Pacific energy, Danaos is pleased to offer our shipping expertise to reliably serve customers across the region and around the world with safe, competitive LNG delivery,” said John Coustas, Chief Executive Officer of Danaos Corporation.
“This transaction provides us with an opportunity to build on our expertise in global seaborne transportation and expand the footprint of Danaos in the LNG and energy segments.”
