Damen & Windcat launch Europe’s first Elevation CSOV

Windcat Amsterdam

Damen and Windcat launched Windcat Amsterdam, the first Elevation series Commissioning Service Operations Vessel (CSOV) in Europe. The vessel was built at Ha Long Shipyard, Vietnam, and can carry up to 120 people. It features low-carbon solutions to strengthen Windcat’s offshore services in the European market.

Windcat Amsterdam supports construction, commissioning, and maintenance of offshore energy projects. It acts as a floating base for personnel and equipment, providing safe and efficient access to offshore assets.

The vessel prioritizes onboard comfort with single and double cabins, a gym, entertainment areas, and high-quality catering. Experts designed the interior for a “home away from home” experience.

The ship uses hybrid battery-electric propulsion and an integrated energy system. Four 360° thrusters enable precise manoeuvring. CO2 emissions are expected to drop by 30%. Hydrogen-powered auxiliary gensets are ready for future integration.

Windcat Amsterdam can operate offshore for up to 30 days. Safety features include a 3D motion-compensated gangway and the world’s first 10-ton 3D motion-compensated crane for heavy lifts in rough seas.

Willem van der Wel, Windcat Managing Director, said the vessel sets new standards and supports Europe’s energy transition. Joost van der Weiden, Damen Sales Director, highlighted its role in improving offshore efficiency and reliability.
