COSCO’s Hainan hub sees 70% volume explosion

COSCO Shipping has developed over 520,000 square meters of modern inspection facilities across Hainan Free Trade Port. The facilities span key port areas, including Yangpu and Macheng.

The infrastructure supports efficient clearance for all cargo categories. COSCO adopted a “build while operating” model that allows port operations and infrastructure upgrades to advance simultaneously. The approach ensures capacity keeps pace with rising demand.

Yangpu International Container Terminal continues its rapid expansion. The terminal can now accommodate the world’s largest container vessels.

From January to November 2025, the terminal handled 2.77 million TEUs. The figure represents a year-on-year growth of more than 70%.

COSCO Shipping currently operates 25 container liner services across Haikou and Yangpu. The services link major domestic ports with key global markets.

The company introduced innovative models such as “domestic-international combined cargo on the same vessel.” The approach has substantially boosted overall logistics efficiency.

Yangpu Port’s transshipment volumes have surged since 2025. Foreign trade transshipment jumped 213%.

The growth reinforces the port’s role as a dynamic and influential regional hub in the Asia-Pacific maritime landscape.
