COSCO promotes reefer boxes green manufacturing

COSCO Shipping has confirmed the commercialisation of the oil-based paint to water-based paint transition project for reefer container production, with the delivery of a brand-new reefer box produced with water-based paint.

On 1 December, the ceremony of the start of the commercialised operation of the project was held at the assembly workshop of Dong Fang International Container (Qidong) Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of COSCO Shipping Development.

COSCO’s brand-new reefer container produced with water-based paint.

Earlier in September, Dong Fang International Container (Qidong) took the initiative to replace conventional oil-based paint with low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) paint.

It took three months to complete this technical transformation from oil-based paint to water-based paint in container manufacturing in order to significantly lower the emission of air pollutants, thus playing a positive role in improving air quality and reducing VOC emissions.

The demand for the new reefer containers manufactured with water-based paint is outrunning supply, as they are well received by many enterprises and widely popular in the market, according to COSCO Shipping, which said that orders for the first batch of new containers have already been signed.

COSCO noted that its subsidiary, COSCO Shipping Development will implement a dual carbon goal, promote green production, fulfill its corporate social responsibility and push forward the sustainable development of the company.
